Our vocabulary is filling up with words like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">crossfit<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">kettlebell<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pull-ups<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">push-ups<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but we often don\u2019t really know what they mean. Specifically, all these words are part of the larger category of <\/span><b>functional training<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 20px;\">What is functional training?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Functional training aims to work all the muscles through exercises that tone the entire body, instead of just one part at a time. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 20px;\">What are the benefits of functional training?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first and most obvious is that it <\/span><b>improves your daily life<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as working with regular daily movements will increase your mobility in all your usual routines like walking, bending down and carrying shopping bags. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also reduces the <\/span><b>probability of injuries <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">strengthening<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the muscles and joints.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How many times have you arrived home after a long day at the office with terrible back pain? We know that spending many hours sitting is harmful to our health, as it leads to bad posture which can sometimes cause muscular discomfort. Functional training <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">helps <\/span><b>improve our posture<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and puts an end to these problems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What about your figure? This type of exercise is perfect to improve your figure and lose weight. On the one hand, it is an <\/span><b>excellent fat-burner<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; and, on the other hand, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>it tones the muscles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>speeds up your metabolism.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 20px;\">What types of functional exercises are there?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the most common <\/span><b>functional exercises<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Squats<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These consist of separating the legs at the width of the shoulders, then bending the knees and lowering the shoulders as much as possible with a straight back, then coming back up. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pull-ups<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hang from a bar and try to pull up your own weight. This exercise works the arms, back and abdomen. It doesn\u2019t matter if you <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">can\u2019t go all the way up at first, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it&#8217;s still good to just hang<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for as long as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jumps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can use a jump rope or go up and down stairs, jumping with both legs at the same time. You\u2019ll work on coordination and the strength of your legs, buttocks and abdomen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As you can see, <\/span><b>functional training<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a great option not just because of all its <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">benefits<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but also because it is inexpensive and you can do it outdoors at any park. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At SHA, we recommend the Fitness Program for anyone interested in obtaining the benefits of this type of training.
