By adding new habits every day, you can <strong>start building a healthy routine<\/strong> that is achievable and enjoyable.<\/p>\n<p>A good way to look at it is <strong>instead of setting all your goals for the month of January<\/strong> and making it feel overwhelming, look at the bigger picture and <strong>take it step by step<\/strong> to achieve smaller goals that in the end will make a <strong>substantial change.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Where to start?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Start by <strong>analysing your lifestyle<\/strong>. What are your <strong>eating habits<\/strong> like? Do you <strong>exercise regularly<\/strong>? Do you <strong>sleep<\/strong> enough?<\/p>\n<p>Depending on what your answers are to these basic questions, you\u2019ll be able to measure <strong>how many changes you think you need to make.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking to <strong>improve your diet,<\/strong> you should start by <strong>including<\/strong> more <strong>vegetables<\/strong>, whole grains, <strong>legumes<\/strong>, fish and <strong>seasonal<\/strong> <strong>fruits<\/strong>. Instead of feeling like you\u2019re eliminating foods from your diet, <strong>think<\/strong> about all the <strong>healthy foods you\u2019re introducing<\/strong> that will help you <strong>feel<\/strong> and <strong>look<\/strong> <strong>great<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Did you know that starting your day with a <strong>healthy and balanced breakfast<\/strong> helps you <strong>make<\/strong> <strong>healthier choices<\/strong> throughout the day and <strong>boost your energy<\/strong>, vitality and <strong>concentration levels<\/strong>? <strong>Start<\/strong> your morning routine with <strong>warm lemon water<\/strong> to start cleansing your organism and continue with a<strong> breakfast rich in healthy fats<\/strong>, <strong>protein<\/strong> and <strong>fibre<\/strong> in the morning. You could have rye bread with avocado and seeds or <a href=\"https:\/\/shawellness.com\/shamagazine\/?p=8079\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">porridge<\/a> with berries and seeds.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Healthy subsitutes<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Substitute refined carbohydrate<\/strong> for <strong>whole grains<\/strong> such as quinoa, millet, brown rice and buckwheat. These grains are highly nutritious and will <strong>keep you feeling satiated, without feeling bloated.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The foods you should <strong>avoid<\/strong> to start noticing changes and feeling healthier are <strong>sugar<\/strong>, dairy, <strong>processed<\/strong> <strong>foods<\/strong> and <strong>meat<\/strong>. Substitute sugar with <strong>healthier alternatives<\/strong> like<strong> agave syrup<\/strong>, maple syrup and <strong>rice malt syrup.<\/strong> Instead of eliminating all sugary foods at once, <strong>add<\/strong> a teaspoon of a <strong>healthy sweetener<\/strong> to a herbal tea like <strong>rooibos tea<\/strong>, eat some seasonal fruits or <strong>dried<\/strong> <strong>fruits<\/strong>, or have a small piece of dark chocolate. These <strong>snacks<\/strong> can really <strong>help curb sugar cravings.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>Hydration<\/h4>\n<p>Keep yourself <strong>hydrated<\/strong> throughout the day, as this will help you feel fuller and <strong>avoid overeating<\/strong>. Drink mineral water throughout the day and herbal teas that will <strong>help flush out toxins and reduce bloating.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>Fitness<\/h4>\n<p>If you\u2019re trying to get <strong>back into your workout routine,<\/strong> don\u2019t be hard on yourself. <strong>Start<\/strong> by doing <strong>lighter workouts<\/strong> to get back into the rhythm and make sure to choose <strong>classes<\/strong> or <strong>activities<\/strong> that you <strong>enjoy<\/strong>, as this will help you feel <strong>more<\/strong> <strong>motivated<\/strong> and have fun whilst working out. Why not try a new class or fitness routine you\u2019ve been meaning to try? Like <a href=\"https:\/\/shawellness.com\/shamagazine\/?p=15384\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">boxing<\/a>, <strong>yoga<\/strong> or <strong>pilates<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<h4>Sleep<\/h4>\n<p>One of the most underestimated <strong>keys to health is sleep.<\/strong> Sleeping <strong>more than 7 hours a night<\/strong> helps your <strong>brain<\/strong> <strong>detox<\/strong>,<strong> cleanse your organism<\/strong>, <strong>boost your energy<\/strong>, balance your mood, regulate appetite and<strong> maintain a healthy weight.<\/strong> When you <strong>don\u2019t sleep enough<\/strong> hours, your <strong>body craves more unhealthy foods<\/strong> and your stress levels increase. Make sure to make <strong>sleep<\/strong> one of your <strong>priorities<\/strong>! A great way to <strong>get more sleep<\/strong> is to <strong>turn off your phone<\/strong> an hour before going to bed, and <strong>read a book i<\/strong>nstead until you fall asleep. Not only will this <strong>help you get more sleep<\/strong>, but you\u2019ll fall asleep quicker, as the blue light from the screen <strong>won\u2019t inhibit melatonin production.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your <strong>New Year\u2019s resolutions this year should be to focus on long-term goals<\/strong> that will help you become the<strong> best version of yourself.<\/strong> Eat well, hydrate, exercise regularly and prioritise sleep. <strong>Don\u2019t turn to crash diets<\/strong> that end up creating a <strong>yo-yo effect<\/strong> and make drastic changes that leave your b<strong>ody feeling weak and energy less<\/strong>.
