Since <strong>mobile<\/strong> phones <strong>interrupted our lives<\/strong>, we\u2019ve observed <strong>important<\/strong> <strong>changes<\/strong> in our <strong>habits<\/strong>, personal <strong>relationships<\/strong>, and in <strong>all aspects of our lives<\/strong>. These changes have their <strong>advantages<\/strong>, but everything has two sides to it, and the truth is, that there are <strong>also consequences<\/strong> for our <strong>health<\/strong> and <strong>wellbeing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You can <strong>differentiate<\/strong> these <strong>consequences<\/strong> by those that affect our<strong> everyday behaviour<\/strong> and<strong> personal relationships<\/strong>, and those that <strong>affect our healthy directly<\/strong>. As we know,<strong> technological device<\/strong>s are a<strong> part of our everyday life<\/strong>, in our <strong>work<\/strong> and <strong>personal lives<\/strong>, whether it\u2019s by the <strong>use of smartphones<\/strong>, tablets, <strong>computers<\/strong>, televisions, etc. The <strong>constant contact<\/strong> we have with <strong>technology forces<\/strong> us to be <em><strong>hyper connected<\/strong>. <\/em>We are <strong>connected at all times<\/strong>, with everybody. The <strong>great advantage<\/strong> of this is that we can <strong>communicate instantly<\/strong>, <strong>keep up to date<\/strong> with all the <strong>latest news<\/strong>, and <strong>educate ourselves in topics<\/strong> of interest, amongst many other things. <strong>However<\/strong>, all of this also <strong>causes us to lose the capacity of disconnecting<\/strong>. We have<strong> become addicted<\/strong> to<strong> staying connected<\/strong> all the time, and in fact, we\u2019re even expected to. That\u2019s why it\u2019s <strong>important<\/strong> to <strong>do a digital detox<\/strong> once in a while, whether it\u2019s<strong> a couple hours a day<\/strong>, or <strong>several hours during the weekend<\/strong>. A <strong>digital detox<\/strong> <strong>consists<\/strong> of<strong> freeing oneself<\/strong> of all <strong>technological devices<\/strong> and fully disconnecting, whether by<strong> reading a book<\/strong>, going for a <strong>walk<\/strong>, working out, <strong>cooking<\/strong>, or <strong>spending time<\/strong> with <strong>friends<\/strong> and <strong>family<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the <strong>changes<\/strong> that <strong>technology<\/strong> has <strong>caused in our day-to-day life<\/strong> and <strong>personal relationships<\/strong>, there are <strong>also consequences<\/strong> that can be <strong>detrimental<\/strong> to our <strong>health<\/strong> and <strong>wellbeing<\/strong>. On the one hand, the<strong> constant stimuli<\/strong> from <strong>technology<\/strong> cause our <strong>brain to function quicker<\/strong>. The <strong>outburst of digital devices<\/strong>, especially <strong>smartphones<\/strong>, <strong>send<\/strong> more <strong>stimuli to our brain<\/strong> than it can even process. One of the<strong> main tasks our brains<\/strong> have to on a daily basis is <strong>delete the information that isn\u2019t of vital importance<\/strong>. When <strong>we\u2019re connected all day<\/strong>, the <strong>brain starts responding in a stressful<\/strong> and <strong>anxious<\/strong> <strong>mode<\/strong>, as a <strong>consequence<\/strong>, <strong>diminishing concentration levels<\/strong> (caused by the amount of different stimuli and interruptions its receiving), as well as the <strong>capacity to memorise<\/strong>. If the <strong>brain spends<\/strong> too much <strong>time in the high frequenc<\/strong>y (beta, around 30Hz), it <strong>can cause our nervous system<\/strong> to <strong>lose balance<\/strong> between <strong>action-reparation<\/strong>, <strong>causing a negative effect<\/strong> in our <strong>sleep<\/strong>, <strong>memory<\/strong> and <strong>general health<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Since the <strong>digital<\/strong> era is a <strong>phenomenon of the last 20 years<\/strong>, there is <strong>still<\/strong> much to be <strong>studied<\/strong> around the<strong> affects it has on our health<\/strong>. However, there are <strong>numerous scientific studies<\/strong> that <strong>outline<\/strong> the <strong>detrimental affects electromagnetic radiations<\/strong> have on our health, <strong>considered<\/strong> to be a<strong> potential carcinogen<\/strong> by the World Health Organization. The <strong>introduction<\/strong> of<strong> 5G<\/strong> means there is going to be <strong>many more antennas around us<\/strong>, with a <strong>higher potency<\/strong>, thus, causing <strong>more physiological affects<\/strong>. We have to understand the <strong>nervous system \u2018speaks\u2019<\/strong> the<strong> same electric language<\/strong> and our <strong>cells communicate<\/strong> with <strong>one another using that same language<\/strong>, <strong>based<\/strong> on <strong>rhythms<\/strong> (frequencies). If we\u2019re <strong>surrounded by an environmen<\/strong>t that is<strong> \u2018shouting\u2019<\/strong> the <strong>same language<\/strong>, it\u2019s <strong>normal<\/strong> to<strong> consider that intercellular communication is going to be affected<\/strong>. We are yet to <strong>discover<\/strong> the affects that this is<strong> going to have on our long-term health<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, whilst the number of studies of the <strong>affects technology<\/strong> has on our <strong>health keeps growing,<\/strong> we have to <strong>do everything in our hands to be wise<\/strong> with the <strong>use of digital devices<\/strong>.
