Usually, you will find that p<strong>ilates on a mat<\/strong> is <strong>offered<\/strong> in <strong>most gyms<\/strong>, whilst <strong>reformer pilates<\/strong> is <strong>found in private pilates studios<\/strong>. For that reason,<strong> mat pilates<\/strong> is <strong>usually<\/strong> what most people are <strong>familiar<\/strong> with, but today we\u2019re going to look at the <strong>difference between<\/strong> the two and the <strong>benefits<\/strong> that they <strong>provide<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Mat pilates:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As the name itself reveals, this type of pilates is<strong> practiced on a mat<\/strong> with <strong>other equipment<\/strong> such as <strong>dumbbells<\/strong>, balls, <strong>elastic bands<\/strong> and <strong>exercise rings<\/strong>, to <strong>tone<\/strong> different areas of the body. The practice is <strong>based<\/strong> on <strong>slow<\/strong> and<strong> conscious exercises<\/strong> that <strong>require<\/strong> having <strong>control over your breathing<\/strong>. Reformer pilates is very <strong>effective<\/strong> at <strong>toning<\/strong> and the <strong>lengthening the muscles<\/strong>, <strong>achieving<\/strong> that <strong>svelte \u2018ballerina\u2019 figure<\/strong> that many women desire.
