Therefore, the <strong>best way<\/strong> to <strong>relax<\/strong> the body and mind, is to <strong>take control<\/strong> of your <strong>breath<\/strong>. However, it is <strong>not an easy task<\/strong> since we <strong>do not<\/strong> usually <strong>pay attention<\/strong> to the <strong>way<\/strong> we <strong>breathe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>What is pranayama?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Prana<\/strong> means <strong>energy<\/strong>. Prana is <strong>universal<\/strong> and is the <strong>axis of life<\/strong>. In classical yoga texts, it is said that when <strong>breathing<\/strong> is <strong>calm<\/strong>, <strong>prana<\/strong> is <strong>calm<\/strong>. There are <strong>many people<\/strong> who <strong>breathe incorrectly<\/strong> without being aware that the <strong>quality of breathing<\/strong> indirectly <strong>affects<\/strong> the <strong>quality of life<\/strong>. Pranayama <strong>helps<\/strong> you <strong>control<\/strong> and <strong>balance<\/strong> your <strong>breathing<\/strong> in order to<strong> improve your health<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There are <strong>three types<\/strong> of pranayama <strong>according<\/strong> to the <strong>type of breathing<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Abdominal breathing:<\/strong> You should <strong>keep<\/strong> your <strong>abdominal muscles relaxed<\/strong> and <strong>inhale<\/strong> and <strong>exhale air<\/strong> through your <strong>nose<\/strong> at all times. If you prefer, you can <strong>place a hand<\/strong> on your <strong>stomach<\/strong> to feel the movement.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thoracic breathing:<\/strong> With this type of breathing an <strong>expansion<\/strong> of the <strong>thoracic cage<\/strong> takes place. You must <strong>tighten<\/strong> your <strong>abdominals<\/strong> and <strong>breathe<\/strong>. By doing this you <strong>provoke tension<\/strong> in the <strong>abs<\/strong>, <strong>preventing<\/strong> the <strong>belly<\/strong> from <strong>expanding<\/strong>, and therefore, the <strong>thorax swells<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clavicular breathing: <\/strong>This type of breathing is <strong>produced<\/strong> by <strong>filling<\/strong> the <strong>upper part<\/strong> of the <strong>lungs<\/strong> with air. You should <strong>lift the clavicles<\/strong> when you breathe in, trying <strong>not to move<\/strong> your <strong>shoulders<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If we <strong>perform<\/strong> these <strong>three<\/strong> types of <strong>breathing<\/strong> <strong>together<\/strong>, we will be <strong>performing<\/strong> a <strong>complete breath<\/strong>, which is how pranayama is achieved. The <strong>correct way<\/strong> to achieve this type of breathing is to first <strong>start<\/strong> with <strong>abdominal breathing<\/strong>, <strong>followed<\/strong> by the <strong>thoracic<\/strong> and <strong>finally<\/strong> the <strong>clavicular<\/strong>. This way you will get the<strong> lungs to work<\/strong> at their<strong> maximum capacity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>What are the benefits?<\/h3>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Regulate<\/strong> the <strong>respiratory<\/strong> and <strong>cardiac<\/strong> <strong>frequency<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Regulate blood pressure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Reduce<\/strong> <strong>stress<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Remove<\/strong> <strong>toxins<\/strong> from the body<\/p>\n<p><strong>-Improvedigestion<\/strong>and<strong> increase<\/strong> <strong>immunity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<strong>Regulate<\/strong> and <strong>improve<\/strong> your <strong>mood<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pranayama<\/strong> has <strong>different<\/strong> types of <strong>exercises<\/strong> such as <strong>Ujjayi<\/strong>, Kapalabhati, <strong>Sithali<\/strong>, etc. All of these <strong>can be performed<\/strong> in any <strong>stable sitting position<\/strong> that allows you to <strong>keep<\/strong> your <strong>back straight<\/strong>.
