And musculoskeletal sequelae can be particularly limiting, so it is important to know how and why to treat them.<\/p>\n<p>The virus infects the respiratory system and there are direct and indirect effects of such infection on multiple areas of the body, including the musculoskeletal system. The most recent studies have identified <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/32675661\/\">myalgia, muscle dysfunction, osteoporosis and osteonecrosis<\/a> as common after-effects in patients with moderate and severe forms of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>As Dr. Vicente Mera, head of Internal Medicine and head of the Post-COVID Programme at SHA, states, \u201c<em>the after-effects in the most severe cases depend on the number of days of stay in the ICU but can range from simple muscular atrophy (due to lack of use of the muscles) to severe sequelae and deformities in the most difficult cases<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reduced quality of life<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Patients need to recover their functional capacity as soon as possible.
