Esto se debe a que <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">el intestino alberga millones de neuronas<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> que interact\u00faan constantemente con los sistemas inmunitario, endocrino y nervioso central. De ah\u00ed que al intestino se le conozca como el <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">segundo cerebro<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Como nos explica Ana Mayor, m\u00e9dico internista y experta en Salud Digestiva de SHA, \u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">l<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a microbiota intestinal tiene un impacto en las emociones y la cognici\u00f3n porque mantiene una <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">comunicaci\u00f3n bidireccional<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> con el cerebro. La raz\u00f3n es que determinadas bacterias intestinales producen neurotransmisores en las c\u00e9lulas enteroendocrinas, que act\u00faan como segundos mensajeros en el cerebro y que <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">regulan el estado de \u00e1nimo<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> y las funciones cognitivas\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Por esta carretera de doble sentido, denominada <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">gut-brain axis <\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(eje intestino-cerebro), viajan <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">neurotransmisores y se\u00f1ales endocrinol\u00f3gicas<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> que conectan los dos \u00f3rganos y que explican la relaci\u00f3n de la microbiota con la memoria, el aprendizaje, la ansiedad, el estr\u00e9s, los trastornos neurodegenerativos o el neurodesarrollo. Como afirma Ana, \u201c<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">el estado de la microbiota influye en el buen funcionamiento del cerebro <\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">y del sistema nervioso central, pero tambi\u00e9n existen se\u00f1ales en la otra direcci\u00f3n. Es decir, nuestro estado mental y psicol\u00f3gico tiene su reflejo en el equilibrio de la microbiota intestinal\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Por eso, contin\u00faa la doctora, \u201c<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">el estr\u00e9s tiene un impacto muy negativo<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> en la estabilidad de los microorganismos que viven en nuestro intestino y, a su vez, la microbiota intestinal condiciona la respuesta al estr\u00e9s y las secuelas que lleva asociadas. Los factores estresantes m\u00e1s revisados incluyen: estr\u00e9s psicol\u00f3gico, interrupci\u00f3n de los ciclos circadianos, <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">privaci\u00f3n de sue\u00f1o<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, cambios ambientales (calor, fr\u00edo, altitud extrema), sustancias t\u00f3xicas, contaminantes, ruidos, actividad f\u00edsica y dieta. Y se ha evidenciado que todos ellos <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">alteran la composici\u00f3n<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, funci\u00f3n y actividad metab\u00f3lica de la microbiota\u201d.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Por tanto, no es ninguna sorpresa que el desequilibrio de la microbiota se considere un <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">factor de riesgo<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> para sufrir depresi\u00f3n. \u201cLa <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">serotonina<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> es el mediador m\u00e1s importante que permite a la microbiota comunicarse tanto con el intestino como con el cerebro. En una situaci\u00f3n de <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">disbiosis intestinal<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> puede existir un d\u00e9ficit de bacterias productoras de \u00e1cido gamma-aminobut\u00edrico (GABA, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s), que es el precursor de la serotonina.
