Como explica Vicente Mera, especialista en Medicina del Sue\u00f1o de SHA, \u201cel ritmo circadiano es el elemento m\u00e1s antiguo que compartimos todos los seres vivos del planeta. Hace millones de a\u00f1os, las <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">mol\u00e9culas primitivas<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> comenzaron a unirse en organismos m\u00e1s complejos y, para protegerse de la radiaci\u00f3n ultravioleta, <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">relegaron determinadas funciones al periodo nocturno<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. As\u00ed, se defend\u00edan del sol por la ma\u00f1ana y se regeneraban por la noche. Este mismo proceso es el que hace que la producci\u00f3n de melatonina, la hormona que regula nuestro <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">reloj biol\u00f3gico<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, aumente cuando oscurece y se interrumpa durante el d\u00eda\u201d.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Pero el <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ritmo circadiano<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> no es algo invariable, sino que puede verse alterado por distintos elementos, como la luz (natural o artificial), el ruido, el ejercicio f\u00edsico, la alimentaci\u00f3n, el estr\u00e9s o el paso de los a\u00f1os.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Los h\u00e1bitos del sue\u00f1o de cada uno vienen definidos por su<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> cronotipo<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, que son las diferentes variaciones del ritmo circadiano. Como nos cuenta el doctor Mera, \u201clas preferencias de los trasnochadores, conocidos como <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">b\u00fahos<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, o de los madrugadores (<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">alondras<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">) dependen de muchos factores relacionados con el estilo de vida, pero tambi\u00e9n tienen una explicaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica. El conocido t\u00e9cnicamente como <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s\u00edndrome de la fase de sue\u00f1o retrasada<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, una variante gen\u00e9tica presente hasta en el 10 % de la poblaci\u00f3n, se asocia con un retraso en la hora de acostarse de entre 120-180 minutos. Tener esta anomal\u00eda supone un inconveniente porque a los b\u00fahos les cuesta <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">conciliar el sue\u00f1o<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, aunque intenten acostarse pronto, y, si lo consiguen, tienen un sue\u00f1o fragmentado. Estas personas suelen sufrir <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ansiedad, depresi\u00f3n, enfermedades cardiovasculares y diabetes<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.
