10 situations to face in the new normal

During these days, in most countries, strict confinement is lifted and we are regaining much of the normality of our daily lives. However, we have to take some precautions, correct certain habits, act differently in public and, in short, incorporate into our lives the best conditions in terms of safety and prevention.
We put forward to our team of experts and doctors 10 frequent daily situations and we have asked them to give us the advice to prevent and act in the most effective and safe way on these occasions:

1. Dining in a restaurant

It is considered one of the highest risk activities because the exposure time is usually not less than two hours, a conversation is frequent and the mask has to be taken off to eat.
In order to choose the best restaurant, and beyond its culinary offer, what is important is the details such as social separation, the spaciousness of the space and compliance with the best hygienic conditions. If a terrace is available, it’s so much the better.

2. Beach or swimming pool

They say it’s one of the safest activities you can do if it’s done with civility and responsibility. What is required is that we maintain a minimum safety distance from others.
But is that feasible in the water? Not always. It is essential to avoid crowds, both in and out of the water. And also in the accesses and use of the showers. Social distance is the term we have to record ourselves by fire. Consider going to the beach or swimming pool early in the day or late in the evening.

3. Use of public toilets

Bathroom hygiene is widely regulated and should not pose a major risk. In any case, the danger may be in the crowds at the door and sharing the bathroom, of course.
What should a bathroom have in order to be considered safe and hygienic? The very appearance of it will tell you. There should be no shortage of disinfectant and automatic hand dryers. Besides, it never hurts to bring along some wipes and disinfectant gel as a precaution.

4. Celebrations

It’s one of the highest risk social events. For many reasons. First, because of the influx of people. Second, because eating and drinking encourage us to take off our masks. Finally, because we can very easily forget to maintain precautionary measures.
It would be wise to sacrifice food and drink consumption in order to keep the mask on as long as possible. Likewise, avoid crowding, although we know that it is not always easy. If you organize the party, and even if it’s difficult, try to be restrictive with the invitations. You’ll have to make sacrifices for safety. You don’t want anyone to take away a bad memory of your celebration, do you?

5. Open-air meetings

It will always be more effective to hold meetings outdoors than indoors. And better if it’s with a few people and in a spacious place. A courtyard or a park, for example. Again, it’s best to keep the mask on as long as possible.
Sharing food is not a risk in itself. But touching dishes or utensils shared with others can be. Always carry your kit with you and use disposable plates and cutlery.

6. Staying in a hotel

Right now it’s one of the safest activities we can do. A regulatory framework has been imposed and the hotels are carrying it out with extreme care, to offer the client maximum security, even beyond what is required by the authorities.
It is advisable to limit the time we spend in common places such as lobbies, elevators or gyms. It’s not a bad idea to bring with you disinfectant for the room’s remote controls, hairdryers, etc.

7. Going to a holiday home with another family

The main thing would be to make sure that the family we’re going to live with is not infected. If not, it’s a very safe practice.
Obviously, it’s always a good idea to look for a home in a natural environment. We can also clean and disinfect the common areas and main surfaces of the house ourselves.

8. Shopping

It is one of the acts that demands the greatest personal responsibility. Again, we tend to neglect precautions when we are distracted.
We must change the way we think about shopping, go to the shops, being clear about what we are looking for. In the case of fashion, it is preferable to try the clothes on at home, and as a general rule try to promote shopping on the Internet.

9. Going to a hairdresser

Specialists say it is one of the highest risk activities because it involves close contact with another person and exposure to breathing. Perhaps the least of these is the highly regulated hygiene conditions in the premises.
The mask must be our undisputed ally. Don’t take it off at all and keep your distance.
10. Clubs and nightlife
It is perhaps the social activity with the highest risk for multiple reasons: exposure to strangers, crowds, distractions, absence of masks…

It is very difficult to take extreme precautions in this type of context. Again, the responsibility of each individual is called upon. Not consuming excess alcohol will certainly help to keep attention on the risks.
