Living in harmony with others and with the nature that surrounds us to enjoy a longer, higher quality life and, at the same time, minimise our ecological footprint is one of the founding principles of SHA since it opened its doors in 2008. Because for us, sustainability is a way of understanding life whose benefits impact both our own health and wellbeing and the planet’s.
Respect for the environment has been a part of SHA’s DNA from the start, reflected in the construction of the building, which was adapted to the characteristics of the land to reduce the impact on the environment. The use of natural materials and resources was prioritised, as was taking the utmost care with all the elements used, such as the lighting of the outdoor spaces, designed not only to minimise energy consumption, but also to avoid disturbing the natural biological rhythm of the living beings that share the space with us.
The global health crisis has forced us to adapt, reschedule and even postpone some of the projects in our Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy. But where others see an adversity, an insurmountable wall, we see an exciting challenge and the opportunity to be more creative and seek innovative solutions that allow us to adapt quickly to the new reality and meet the planned objectives. We are convinced that a small local action can generate a massive global change and our mission as a company is to share the knowledge we have to inspire and influence the rest of the world.
That’s why we work with a circular approach to business: reduce, reuse, recycle and redesign. We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and our consumption of water, energy resources, plastic and paper.
Healthy and sustainable food is one of SHA’s hallmarks, which is why our dishes are mainly made with organic, seasonal and locally sourced food. In fact, in 2020 we used almost 80 kilos of food and aromatic plants from our organic garden. This makes it possible to guarantee freshness, flavour and nutritional value and reduce the pollution caused by the transport of goods and the energy consumption required for cold storage. Our menus are free of dairy products or red meat, two of the most polluting food industries, and we use organic ingredients obtained through regenerative agriculture. In addition, we have launched reforestation and nature clean-up initiatives, we strongly support conscious consumption and we are firm supporters of the zero waste movement because we know that food waste not only has an economic cost, but also a social impact.
The SHA team is made up of 63.07% women and 36.93% men of 33 different nationalities because we believe that equality, diversity, integration and multiculturalism are the driving force of today for a better and fairer tomorrow. In short, we embrace our mission to be the change we want to see in the world. Because
we are the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat and the earth we walk on. Let’s care for them and protect them as the treasure they are. Change, and change the world.
