SHA Magazine Healthy Nutrition
Nowadays, we’re used to eating all types of foods at any time of the year. Back in the day, one’s diet was determined by the proximity to foods and the seasons. With globalization and the industrialization of foods, we have all kinds of fruits and vegetables from all parts of the world at our disposition, no matter what the season is. However, not only is this going against nature and the environment, it isn’t beneficial to our health. Eating foods that aren’t grown in their natural season means that they have been chemically treated and grown under unfavourable conditions in order to grow at any time of year. In addition, on a nutritional level, they don’t contain the same quantity of nutrients as ones that have been grown in their natural season.
That’s why, it’s important to adapt one’s diet to the seasons in order to eat foods that are seasonal. Not only is it better for the environment, but also it’s also better for your health.
Always ask what seasonal fruits and vegetables are in season and are grown in the region you live in. That way you’ll ensure that they’re fresh and of local origin. It also makes it much more affordable!
