Healthy diets don’t only help us care for our weight. Even more interesting is their effect on our body’s health, since it’s been shown that ingesting essential nutrients for basic functions allows us to enjoy a better quality of life, both physically as well as mentally.

We can’t confuse a healthy, balanced diet with a weight loss diet. Even though we need to eat fruits, vegetables and protein to slim down, a healthy menu goes well beyond that, and consists of incorporating all the foods that benefit the body’s functions onto our plate.

The advantages of a healthy diet

Changing out habits and focusing our diet on nutritionally healthy and balanced meals allows us to enjoy beneficial effects for our bodies, such as an improvement in brain function. We must keep in mind that fruits, vegetables and fish contain nutrients that help us stimulate memory and attention.

With this kind of nutrition, we’ll also avoid problems concerned with having enough energy. Our body functions thanks to the nutrients that we supply through our diet, such as carbohydrates. Thus, it’s important that we include them in our daily menus.

Another great advantage of keeping a healthy diet is the protection it provides to the cardiovascular system. Whole foods and low-sodium foods help us lower bad cholesterol and regulate blood pressure, two basic aspects for good heart health.

Likewise, if we supply our body with all the necessary nutrients, we’ll strengthen our immune system. In other words, we improve our defences against disease or possible external aggressors.

The same occurs with the condition of our bones, since eating citrus fruits will improve your calcium level, thereby strengthening them.

Citrus fruits also have a beneficial effect on stress, just like those rich in omega 3 – such as salmon – and magnesium. All these nutrients regulate cortisol, the hormone that has a direct bearing on mood and energy level.

Finally, we can’t deny that healthy diets are the best allies for maintaining the digestive system in good condition, since they prevent heavy digestive work. In addition, we have to keep in mind that both fruits as well as vegetables provide us with the fiber necessary to improve our intestine’s health. In fact, they play an important role in the prevention of colon cancer.

The Mediterranean Diet and its derivatives

The Mediterranean Diet is based on fruits, vegetables and whole grains. All the foods are prepared using natural cooking techniques, such as in the stove or on the grill. Both characteristics make this one of the most healthy diets around.

Due to their similarity to the Mediterranean Diet, we can note other diets such as vegetarian and vegan diets, as well as their variations. All these are essentially the same: based on vegetables, fruits and natural products. As such they have very similar effects on the body.

We also recommend that you download the SHA Detox program, where they will help you purify your body.
