There is no maximum age limit to a fulfilling sex life. With that in mind, SHA Wellness Clinic has created a unit dedicated exclusively to the study and restoration of sexual wellbeing. “From now on, we will proactively ask all patients about their degree of satisfaction, activity or inactivity in the sexual sphere”, explains Cinthya Molina, head of the unit that began operating in the summer.

The service is designed to identify problems from the outset that may interfere with sexual health, and according to Dr. Molina, once people see that they are being listened to and that there are solutions to their problems, they begin to take an interest in the therapies available, all of which are state-of-the-art with sufficient scientific proof of their safety and efficacy.

Discussing sex at the doctor’s office is more difficult than it seems. Molina lays the groundwork for trust, companionship, and education. “Sometimes you have to teach couples to manage expectations and banish old habits that can damage their relationship, such as having sex without desire, just to please the other person.”

The unit has a multidisciplinary approach to sexual health, optimising the foundations on which desire, self-esteem, and sexual function are built. “Hormone balance has an impact on various functions of human activity, not only sexual, but cardiovascular and digestive. Our unit works to restore the balance and improve sexual wellness”, explains Dr. Molina.

The SHA Wellness Clinic’s Sexual Health unit has prestigious specialists in different medical areas. The cornerstone of the unit is the initial consultation with Molina, where a comprehensive assessment of the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of the patient is carried out. This serves to make a diagnosis and refer patients to other specialists, including gynaecologists and urologists to treat possible underlying pathologies; regenerative specialists for stem-cell therapies; or aesthetic gynaecologists to improve both the vascularisation of the internal area of the vagina and the production of collagen using the latest technology. The unit also offers longitudinal shockwave treatment to manage erectile dysfunction.

In the specialised hormonal treatment consultation, Dr. Rafael Navas assesses patients’complete hormonal axis in order to define an individualised approach based mainly on hormonal precursors and bioidentical hormone therapy. “Sexual wellness is an extension of the general state of health. Everything is interconnected: cardiovascular health, the presence of chronic low-grade inflammation, orthomolecular and metabolic balance. At SHA, we work to improve general health and, therefore, sexual health,” explains the specialist.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is another of the pillars of the unit where, with an electromagnetic device, the pelvic floor musculature is strengthened.

Put your sex life in the best hands. Almost everything has a solution. And much can be achieved with a conversation with the right person. “Sexual health used to be a concern until the age of 50 or 60, but now the average sexual lifespan is getting longer. We have more partners throughout life; people divorce and remarry. From the age of 40 or 50, a new life can begin, and patients want wellness across the board”, says Dr. Navas.
