At this time of year, the change of weather and the exposure to central heating has a negative effect on the skin, usually manifested with dryness. It’s in this period where we need to take extra care of it to make sure it continues to stay hydrated and have a glowing appearance. It’s both important to keep it nourished from the inside as well as the outside.

From a nutritional standpoint, it’s the ideal time to eat skinfoods, like healthy fats and water-rich foods. Include nuts, seeds, avocados and healthy oils (coconut, sesame, olive) in your diet, as well as hydrating foods like fruits and vegetables and also drink plenty of water throughout the day.

When it comes to taking care of your skin from the outside, making sure you’re hydrating your skin is vital. That’s why applying a face mask once a week can be very beneficial for the skin. It gives the skin a deeper hydration and long lasting effects. A face mask is also very effective when you have a cold and the skin around your nose gets irritated.

This facemask is completely natural, made from skinfoods you can find in your kitchen that will nourish and hydrate your skin. The star ingredient, avocado, is full of vitamin E, which helps repair damaged skin, reduce skin inflammation, it acts as a skin regenerator and has anti-aging effects. It is also rich in vitamin C, which is also an essential nutrient for healthy glowing skin.

The other ingredient that also works wonders is honey. Honey is anti-inflammatory and anti-aging and also kills bacteria, leaving your skin cleansed. It’s loaded with nutrients, antioxidants and healing compounds.

Ingredients

  • ½ ripe avocado
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • ½ teaspoon coconut oil (olive and sesame oil work too)

Optional

Preparation

  • Simply blend all of the ingredients so they form a creamy mask.
  • Apply the facemask all over your face and leave on for 20 minutes.
  • Gently wash your face to remove the mask and once you’ve removed it completely, gently tap dry your face with a towel to avoid removing the natural oils on your skin.
