Psychologist at SHA Wellness Clinic
According to data from the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM), it is estimated that 33,375 breast cancers will be diagnosed in Spain in 2021, making it the most common type of tumour in Spanish women. However, thanks to primary prevention, early diagnosis and the latest medical, technical and scientific advances, the five-year survival rate, which has increased by 20% since the 1970s, stands at 90%.
International Breast Cancer Day is celebrated around the world on 19 October to raise awareness of the importance of research and early diagnosis in the fight against this terrible disease, which has a direct impact on both the individual and their environment and affects all areas: personal, emotional, physical, occupational and economic.
As Cinthya Molina, psychologist at SHA Wellness Clinic, tells us, “when cancer is diagnosed, everything stops and life begins to revolve around the disease and the treatment. But, once it is over, the process of recovery and adaptation to a new normality begins, which, although it may seem simple and full of joy, can also include some fears and changes derived from the so-called post-traumatic growth“. Cinthya gives us some advice on how to face and manage this difficult but exciting and hopeful stage of life with all the guarantees.
